Jamilah Star - Biography


Jamilah Star owned her first surfboard at age five.  She has been surfing ever since.  Inspired by her father, Reve Fuse - an avid Santa Cruz cold water surfer - Jamilah is now a celebrated and award winning big wave rider, decorated ocean lifeguard and successful competitive professional surfer.

She likes to competes against the power of nature.  Jamilah won the Billabong XXL Big Wave Award two years in a row, including the first year Billabong ever gave an award to women (2005).  She is the only woman named a global finalist 12 years in a row.  June 2012 she won 1st place in the Jay Race two mile paddle in Santa Cruz, California.
 
Jamilah's record breaking waves shots were taken at Sunset beach, Waimea from the cliffs and Waimea from the water.

National Geographic Adventure Magazine, named Jamilah one of the 12 most adventurous people in the world!  (See article on page one: BEST OF ADVENTURE '07/THEY DID IT!)

Jamilah is the only woman to win the CENTRAL AMERICAN LONG BOARD CIRCUIT, competing against all men.

She's spent months charging intense waves on the North Shore of Oahu, including Waimea Bay, Sunset Beach, Pipe Line, Off-the-wall and returning home to surf
Mavericks.  She rides Maverick's - on days that take all her strength and determination to succeed.

In November of 2016, Jamilah became one of only six female surfers to compete in the first-ever women's heat at the annual big wave Mavericks "Titans of Mavericks" surf contest in Half Moon Bay, California.  She is only one of two representing her home break of Santa Cruz, California.

World Surf League (WSL) Big Wave Tour Women's Championship declared Jamilah a CONFIRMED COMPETITOR for the 2016-2017 tour.  Stating "we are fired up to finally have an opportunity to integrate the best female big wave surfers in the world in this winter's (2016) schedule."

Her accomplishments gained her the cover of Surf Life for Women.  Also Surfer, WAVES, Free Surf Hawaii, SG, TRIP SURF and many other international publications feature Jamilah in interviews and photo layouts.

Steamers Lane, in Santa Cruz, California is her home break.  It provides excellent training for mastering big powerful cold-water waves.  The international venues of Hawaii, Indonesia, Panama, Costa Rica, and Mexico are some of Jamilah's current favorites.


Raised on fresh air and healthy food, gifted with naturally beautiful looks, Jamilah developed into a world-class beauty with an outstanding athletic, seductive physic.

Jamilah is a great crowd pleaser.  Her flair on the board, from headstands, aerial maneuvers to thirty foot air drops in extreme conditions - get special attention from the media. Recently she's been featured on the Discovery Channel, National Geographic TV, MTV and ESPN.


Jamilah enjoys singing and recording, she is a sketch artist and published writer.  She has a great passion and love for life, and all the wonderful gifts it brings.
